Natural therapeutic resources
Natural therapeutic resources
Natural resources with therapeutic properties, whether thermal and mineral springs, peloids (i.e. peat and mud), spring gases or climatic conditions, are not found everywhere. They occur only in a few areas around the world, including Central Europe and, in abundance, the Czech Republic. Most Czech spa resorts have mineral waters, many of them use peloids for treatment and several spas specialise in the treatment and prevention of diseases using unique climatic conditions.
Therapeutic resources in balneotherapy
Mineral water is used in spa treatment (balneotherapy) for many purposes depending on its composition – for spa water drinking cures, inhalation, irrigation, baths and underwater massages. Peloids are used for wraps, compresses and baths, and have a beneficial effect on the musculoskeletal system and skin. Gases are used for subcutaneous application to relieve pain and treat functional disorders. The climate is also an indispensable part of spa treatment – beautiful countryside, clean air and altitude can have a therapeutic effect.
Medical treatments
Balneotherapy comprises a wide range of treatments, which are always recommended to patients by a doctor based on their current state of health. Therapeutic treatments are also part of relaxation and wellness stays.
Medical treatments can be divided into two groups:
1. Unique treatments using local natural therapeutic resources – baths, wraps, inhalations and spa water drinking cures
2. Additional procedures provided in all spas – hydrotherapy, massages, electrotherapy, magnetotherapy, kinesitherapy, etc.
