Therapeutic stays for children
Children in a spa
Spa treatment for children is unique and has almost no equivalent anywhere else in the world. Especially in the case of very young children who are predisposed to developing future illnesses (e.g. asthma), repeated spa treatment can suppress these predispositions. The illness will then either not develop at all in later life, or its effects will be mitigated. However, it is necessary to start spa treatment as early as possible.
What can children be treated with in a spa?
In recent years, there has been a steady increase in the number of asthmatics, children with allergic rhinitis and recurrent respiratory tract infections. Their treatment at spas is based on the beneficial effects of the climate, the use of mineral waters for baths, inhalation and spa water drinking cures, with great emphasis placed on therapeutic rehabilitation. Spa care also has excellent results in the treatment of conditions following sinusitis, bronchitis, pneumonia and chest and lung surgery.
The treatment of musculoskeletal disorders in children also has a long tradition here. They most often involve conditions following injuries, orthopaedic surgery and the treatment of scoliosis. The Czech Republic has also become world-renowned for its spa treatment of cerebral palsy in children. Natural therapeutic resources and therapeutic rehabilitation in spas are also successfully used for children with cancer diagnoses, circulatory and digestive system diseases, kidney and urinary tract diseases, diabetes, thyroid diseases, skin and gynaecological diseases, and mental disorders.
Children and healthy lifestyle
Spas are an ideal way to start a new, healthy lifestyle for obese children. A spa programme includes a wide range of treatments, from therapeutic physical education, walking and exercise on an exercise bike to baths, swimming and education by a nutrition therapist. You don't have to worry that your child will be starved or given an unvaried diet – the weight-loss diet is healthy, tasty and meets the needs of a child's growing body.
Why is spa treatment suitable for children?
Treatment with natural therapeutic resources is effective and gentle on children's bodies. Children who have undergone spa treatment are less likely to fall ill, are prescribed antibiotics much less frequently and even experience a reduction in the dosage of their basic medications. Parents who accompany their little ones participate in all procedures and can then apply the techniques and knowledge they have learned at home after a stay.
When to start spa treatment?
It is advisable to start spa treatment at the age of 2–3 years, when a child is able to actively participate in spa procedures. Young clients who come to stay with their parents adapt very well to the new environment and cooperate well with doctors and nurses.
How are school-age children treated?
If you have a schoolchild at home and are worried that they will miss lessons during their stay at a spa, your concerns are unfounded: comprehensive spa care includes providing full-fledged schooling by specially trained teachers who work with children individually. Schoolchildren can also stay in touch with their teachers, classmates and friends at home via the internet. In their free time, children are looked after by educators, so they get plenty of exercise and entertainment.
